Just around the corner now, the holidays are a time of celebration and giving thanks. Good health is certainly something worth celebrating and appreciating! The Weight-control Information Network offers these tips for a healthy holiday season:
Control Portions
- Eat a healthy snack before going to holiday events. This may help you feel full and prevent you from making unhealthy food choices.
- Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
- Split dessert with a friend.
- Hitting the road? Take along a cooler packed with fresh fruit, sliced raw vegetables and low-fat yogurt for snacks.
Keep Moving
- Get at least 150 minutes each week of moderately intense physical activity. Remember, some physical activity is better than none.
- Keep track of your progress in a journal or log. Set goals and reward yourself.
- Get moving indoors with a walk around a shopping mall or museum on inclement weather days.
